I was reading a well-known golf publication last month, and they had this article on the best clubs for different handicap ranges. I was rather looking forward to it, and when I finally read it, I threw the magazine down in disgust.
These geniuses, in their infinite wisdom, think that my group, the 10-19 handicap, should be playing a set of clubs that would cost clost to $3,000 new!!! Three grand? You’ve got to be kidding me! How low would my handicap go if I spent 3K on lessons?
The big club manufacturers need a wakeup call. Unfortunately, they’re not going to get it as long as major publications, such as the one I was reading, continute to hype and push their products as the ONLY answer to a poor game.
There ARE club manufacturers out there that put out a good product, and they keep their costs down by NOT putting out millions of dollars a quarter enticing the pro’s to endorse. These guys will make a better living than 95% of us just showing up and playing; do they need a $5,000 bonus for showing up and swinging their driver one time? Or $2,000,000 for wearing the logo on the hat?
Alas, who am I but a weekend warrior? Oh yeah, that’s right, I represent the portion of the population who funds the corporate monster’s ambition…
