Another Ryder Cup Loss…

Man…are we ever going to get the Ryder Cup back?  This is getting to be old news.  What the heck happened to Phil Mickelson?  He was 0-4-1, and has only won just one match in the last two years.  Our local paper talked about locking Paul Casey who beat Phil in his hotel room for 3 days!  Come on Phil…show some heart dude!

I didn’t even have a desire to watch after the first day or so.  I hate to be such a “fair weather” fan, but I had better things to do with my day.

Golf Is Amazing

I played golf yesterday for the first time in a month! I know…I’m the golf trainer guy right? Well…I am launching new websites like a mad man, and don’t plan to stop anytime soon! If you want to check them out, they are my new golf articles site with over 120 new articles in less than 2 weeks; my golf swing training aid site that I will be doing reviews on golf training aids; my golf balls review site; and a soon to be launched golf bags review site!

That is why I haven’t been playing golf, but my point was having not picked up a club in over a month, but like a good boy, doing my golf training program, I shot 39 on the front, but then my swing went south for a 44 on the back. This is a below-average round for me, but I was shocked at the front nine with no practice or play.

Could it be the training?????

Can Golf Still Be Fun

Mike_makingputt1.gifI was thinking about golf today (like most days) and came to the conclusion there are a lot of frustrated golfers walking off golf courses after a round of golf.

Am I mistaken?

Why is this and can it be improved?

Golf has become such a complicated sport with all the techical golf swing books, videos and equipment these days.

Has it gotten too complicated?

I think so! Think about it! Turn back - turn through…done!

I came across a very simple golf swing ebook that seemed very basic to me at first, but then I got to thinking of the beauty in this approach. Making the golf swing as simple as you can.

What a novel idea!

Remove the 62-point checklist from your brain, and find a resource like the simple golf swing and back to the basics!

Tiger Out Already

woods091406-299x244.gifThe streak is over! And in the first round no less! Man can anything happen in match play! Out in the first round of the World Match Play Championship! Can you tell I am just a little bummed? I was really enjoying watching Tiger dominate.

No doubt Tiger will come back ferociously for his next outing.  Maybe it was the time he took off with his wife at the US Open Men’s tennis championship in New York that caused this?

Just kidding!

Can A Golf Swing Training Aid Make A Difference

I have seen so many training aids for golf come out in the past few years that it boggles my mind.  Is the golf swing that difficult or complicated…or are we just making it more complicated?

Is there a magic golf swing training aid that will transform your golf swing?

I don’t think so, but that doesn’t mean I don’t see value in using them.  I just hate to see golfers throwing money down the drain in hopes for this miraculous golf swing transformation.

In fact, one golf swing aid I think is very effective is the medicus.  This training aid does not lie.  When you make a bad swing, the hinged breaks and you get instant feedback.  This is one example of an effective golf swing training aid that can really help your golf swing.

Breaking Putts Drill ~ Putting Drills

shaftdrill1.gifOne thing I’ve noticed when watching amateurs putt is that they constantly miss on the low-side of the hole. On breaking putts, they do not aim close to high enough to even give the ball a chance of finding the bottom of the hole. Never up, never in! This saying rings true for most amateurs.

The problem I notice is they don’t quite have an understanding of how and where to aim on breaking putts. The line shown in yellow is the about where the normal amateur would try to play the putt shown here. The line in blue is where you must actually play this shot in order to give it a chance to find the hole at a reasonable speed.

Butch Harmon, “The Short Game Guru”, did many tests on breaking putts, he discovered that amateurs on average play fifty percent less break than they should. Their thought pattern usually consists of playing less break and hitting the ball too firmly. On breaking putts the idea is to get the ball as close to the hole as possible, this means you have to actually play the break and hit the ball softer. Otherwise you’re looking at another 10 -footer coming back.

This drill will help you envision how to properly play side-hill putts.
First, find a side-hill putt and place a tee beyond the hole as your normal aiming point. Then hit a couple of putts using this tee as a guide.
Now hit a couple of putts so that the ball just dies into the hole. Grab a flagstick and place it along this line as shown. How far away is this from your original tee?

You’ll quickly discover that when playing breaking putts, you’re better off playing lots of break. At least from here, it has a chance of falling in the cup.

Give it a try!

Can You Benefit From A Golf Trainer

The term golf trainer is becoming more and more popular as golfers are becoming more aware of what is happening to their golf swing from a physical standpoint.

I have always said, “your body dictates your golfing ability”.  You heard it hear first…if you hear it anywhere else someone is copying me again (lol).  But doesn’t that make sense?  If your body is limited you cannot perform optimal swing mechanics.  The end result is a golf swing with flaws and inconsistencies.

That’s where a golf trainer comes in!

A qualified and experienced trainer specializing in golf diagnose your limitations and weaknesses and prescribe a program that addresses them very effectively.

Having a golf trainer in your corner isn’t the worst thing you can do for your game!

Learn How To Achieve A Full Golf Backswing

Mike_New_Site8.gifHow many times have you wished you could make a full backswing in golf for 18 holes? I can honestly say I have. It is very common to lose range of motion in your shoulder turn due to fatigue and tightening of your golf muscles.

But the elusive full golf swing is attainable with the right approach. This approach is not hitting more balls, or taking more lessons. In fact, you can stop pound those balls while you do this.

Have I peaked your curiousity yet?

Do you think it has anything to do with your body? If so, continue reading more information on a full golf swing.

Low Back Pain in Golfers

Knlng_Opp_Arm_Lg_Rs_Fnsh.jpgI get emails every day from golfers who have low back pain. Low back pain can keep you off the course indefinitely! Not something you want to have happen if you enjoy playing golf.

Having pain in your lower back not only affects your golf game, but your quality of life. But I have to say…”there is hope”. Doing nothing will get you nowhere. But doing some simple stretches and strength exercises targeting the muscles in your lower back will make all the difference.

Don’t Obsess Over Swing Speed

mike_ps_bs1.gif Increasing your swing speed is not the cure-all-end-all to your distance woes and inconsistencies. In fact I do not even want you to obsess about it. Here’s what I want you to do.

Get yourself a weighted golf club! I am swinging one in this picture. Swing it 20 times a day in front of the mirror checking to make sure your technique is solid and not getting sloppy.

Do some golf stretches and exercises to enhance the swing training you’ll be doing above, and you’ll be golden. It’s that easy!
